Unsolicited communication

Individuals occasionally receive unsolicited communication intended to lure them into scams operated under the guise of a brand they may know and trust.

The Economical Insurance identity, among other leading Canadian financial services companies, is occasionally used by those operating these scams. If you receive an unexpected communication or are requested to take an unanticipated action, do nothing and contact your insurance broker.

Unsolicited communication is frequently received by:

  • Mail
  • Email
  • Text message
  • Voicemail

Some examples of recent scams involving the Economical Insurance identity:

  • False confirmation of policy cancellation accompanied by an email attachment that should not be opened
  • Unsolicited "secret shopper" text messages that when engaged with are often followed by delivery of a fraudulent cheque

Economical Insurance has taken action to dispute unauthorized use of our name and identity.

If you receive an unsolicited communication and would like to share it with us, please contact our ombudsperson.
